Nara & Uji: The Highlights in One Day
Discover the Highlights of Nara & Uji in Just 7 Hours!
Our tour begins with a 30-minute train ride from Kyoto to Nara. Upon arrival in Japan’s former capital, we head to Nara Park, famous for its sacred deer. These friendly animals are accustomed to people—you can take beautiful photos with them and even feed them special "Shika-Senbei" rice crackers.
Beyond the deer, the park is home to another must-see attraction: the impressive Tōdai-ji Temple. This massive wooden structure is one of the largest of its kind in the world and houses a giant Buddha statue—an absolute highlight of our tour. Afterwards we stroll back toward the station, where you’ll find a variety of delicious lunch options.
Once we’ve had a well-deserved break, we take the train to Uji, a charming town on our way back to Kyoto that fits perfectly into our day trip. Uji is world-famous for its exceptional matcha tea and is also home to two UNESCO World Heritage sites that complete our journey: the magnificent Byōdō-in Temple, with its iconic Phoenix Hall, and Ujigami Shrine, the oldest surviving Shintō shrine in Japan.
Finally, we return to Kyoto together, concluding the tour at Kyoto Station around 4:00 PM.
